• Although winter has officially only just begun, we’ve had a lot of winter already in Calgary this year. Sometimes that can be annoying, but other times it can be simply beautiful. When the hoar frost settled down over the city at the end of December it was crazy beautiful. We went for a walk along the river pathway and into Sue Higgins park (Southland Dog Park) to enjoy the scenery. When we set out on the walk these long grasses were completely covered in thick frost, but the sun was beating down on them and the ice was quickly melting. I really like the look that resulted with the frost partially melted…
• Coyotes are very hard to photograph because they are extremely wary and they normally take off running as soon as they know that you've seen them. It's uncanny really how they almost completely ignore you until they know that they've been spotted. So I was pretty excited when I found a pair of them that weren't too concerned about me being there. Of course they were cautious, but they actually allowed me to watch them for several minutes. In fact they didn't take off until I tried to get a little bit closer...©2010, Sean Phillips.http://www.Sean-Phillips.com

 • I went out for a sunrise photoshoot with my Dad the other day while he was visiting for the holidays. It ws really nice to be able to head out at a very civilized time (8:00 AM) and still be there in plenty of time to fully enjoy the Magic Hour. This is very different from the other seasons where the sunrise is much earlier in the day, and is one of the few advantages that winter photography has over the summer. I've shot these grain bins before but because of their position relative to the sunrise I knew they would be a good photogenic subject to share with my Dad.
• We've wanted to take a trip out to go snowshoeing at West Bragg Creek for a long time but have never made the time to do it. We finally got it together and made it happen on Family Day. It was a very nice day out and we really enjoyed the scenery at the park. The terrain might have been a little more strenuous than the kids had imagined prior to arriving, but we all made it around and felt great afterwards!
